the train from Đà Nẵng to Huế

Our home stay was happy to arrange a van to drive to Da Nang to catch our train to Hue. A Taxi between Hoi An and Da Nang should cost around VND$350k. We got that price for a 10 passenger van so we reveled the spaciousness compared to the regular 7 seater cars. The train ride was slightly over two hours, which we enjoyed in the luxury of our soft berth cars. I could get used to this way of traveling.

The journey to Hue is picturesque, first passing through towns and then into the countryside. We saw tightly packed housing and in the alley spaces between the houses were often dogs or chickens wandering about. Then we passed through agricultural land before the landscape opened up to spectacular ocean views. We met a photographer/journalist on the train who was on assignment with some war veterans and also picked up freelance work with Agent Orange charities. She was planning to return to Danang to ride a motorcycle along the coastline, similar to the path of the railroad. We will have to check for her name on the web.
