Ben Thanh Market is the most well known market in HCM, catering mostly to tourists these days. Hawkers will sell you tea, produce, knock off designer goods, and an extensive range of souvenirs. The stalls seem to go on forever.
In the evenings, the indoor goods market shuts down and a lively, outdoor, evening, food market sets up at the perimeter. The police strictly enforce the policy that no vendor can set up until 6:45pm, so you can see a large crowd amassed directly across the street, waiting for the moment that they can rush over with their wheeled tents, stoves, tables and chairs to claim the most ideal location to set up shop.
We arrived at the market specifically to observe the spectacle.
