While Danang is becoming built up with massive beach/golf resort fortresses, An Bang is still relatively low key. There are a couple of mid sized hotels at the far western shore but most of the places to stay are bed & breakfast or home stay facilities. We booked a charming home stay, Hien Hoa Villa, that was facing the beach. The owner had her infant with her at all times and in the morning we saw her daughter preparing for Saturday morning lessons.
The home stay had a reserved area of the beach with chairs and shade but the view and access to the ocean were blocked by a large bund. SB was told that this is because due to sand mining further upstream, sand was not coming downstream like it needed to replenish the beaches. The beaches thus installed bunds but they exacerbated the problem by acting as sea walls and eroding the beach beyond. We luckily only had to walk 20 meters and found bund free beach frontage.
March is the end of surf season at An Bang but Will wasn't impressed with the waves compared to Tai Long Wan in Hong Kong. However, the current was just enough for the youngest nephew, who we observed drifting quickly asking the shore. SB showed his ever adaptable niece how to body surf and she picked it up like a natural.
